Darryl Cruickshank Memorial Award presented to Mr. Ray Massey
July 8, 2016
Congratulations to Mr. Ray Massey on receiving the Darryl Cruickshank Memorial Award.
On June 6, 2016, the Canadian Council of Directors of Apprenticeship (CCDA) awarded the fourth biennial Darryl Cruickshank Memorial Award (DCMA). It was presented to the very deserving recipient, Mr. Ray Massey, former Chair of the Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training Board, at the Canadian Apprenticeship Forum’s 2016 conference in Vancouver, BC.
Through Mr. Massey’s work as a certified Painter and Decorator, entrepreneur, employer representative, and chair of many apprenticeship and industry boards, he served as a role model and excellent example of how individuals can have successful and rewarding careers in the skilled trades. Mr. Massey implemented several key initiatives for academic excellence in the skilled trades, as well as grants and financial awards for apprentices in Alberta. He also actively supported provincial, national and international Skills events and competitions. In all of these roles, he was a tireless advocate for apprenticeship training. Throughout his career, Mr. Massey has energetically promoted apprenticeship and trades training as a lifelong journey and a rewarding career with many possibilities.
The Darryl Cruickshank Memorial Award is presented every second year to an individual from industry in Canada who has demonstrated inspirational leadership in the development and promotion of apprenticeship training in Red Seal trades for aspiring skilled tradespersons.
Mr. Massey certainly exemplifies these characteristics through the development and promotion of apprenticeship training both in the province of Alberta and across Canada.
Well done Ray Massey!
